Using a socio-pedagogical approach, Eveline Meylemans (also affiliated with the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy, Ghent University) researches the citizenship experiences of young children (6-12 years) in relation to their wider environment. Her research starts from a qualitative child-oriented method in which children as co-researchers help determine the design and execution of the study. By doing so, her work aims to contribute to (1) international empirically and theoretically based knowledge on young children's citizenship and to (2) the emerging research method with children as co-researchers, with the aim of focusing methodological and ethical issues.
