Saan Van Elsen is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy at Ghent University. His research focus is on the meaning of leisure for young people (15-18 years old) in vocational education. Starting from a lifeworld orientation, his work applies a variety of participatory and art-based methods (such as photographs, narratives and guided tours) to gain a better understanding of what leisure can mean for young citizens. The diversity in data collection allows both the researcher and participants to reconstruct and deepen individually lived leisure experiences and connect them to the broader social systems involved in their lives.
